A walk through the city streets of Glasgow around midnight reveals a metropolis heaving with activity. Thousands of young people throng the pavements, spilling on to the roads and out of pubs, clubs and restaurants. Most of these young people will never have heard anything positive about God in their adult lives, and very few will have any concept of their need for some kind of relationship with their Creator assuming they admit He even exists. As Christians, we are commanded to ‘go into all the world and make disciples’. This includes reaching the young people of Glasgow’s club land. But how? By being where they are and serving them in their community. In order to share God’s love with these young people, we must first be able to build relationships with them. We need an environment where this can be done. And that’s where Sanctuary comes in… Sanctuary is a café bar staffed by well-trained Christian youth workers, with a quality catering team. Sanctuary will be open from Thursday to Sunday, 6pm to 5am from early July, it will become known as a good eatery within the city centre. Its distinctive, however, is that it was a place where young people can find information about any issues that concern them social service resources, drugs help and advice, career and vocational training information and, of course, spiritual help. Our youth workers will be on hand to sit with customers and listen to their questions and problems, offering advice and information as required, and also taking opportunities to speak to them about God. |
